The Benefit of Doubt — Study Guide 1. Doubt Happens Scripture: Matthew 14:30–31 — Peter began to sink and cried out, “Lord, save me!” Jesus reached out His hand. Discussion: What does Peter’s story show us about Jesus’ response to doubt? Why do you think we often feel ashamed of having questions? 2. Jesus Meets Us in Doubt Scripture: John 20:27 — Jesus to Thomas: “Put your finger here… Stop doubting and believe.” Discussion: How does Jesus treat people who struggle to believe? How can we show the same grace to others? 3. Common Reasons We Doubt Scripture: Mark 9:24 — “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Discussion: Which do you relate to most: unanswered questions, pain, or disappointment with people? How can doubts actually push us closer to God instead of away? 4. Rebuilding Faith Scripture: Matthew 5:38–39 — “You have heard it said… But I tell you…” Discussion: How can letting go of wrong beliefs open the door to deeper faith? Have you ever had to “unlearn” something about God to grow? 5. From Doubt to Purpose Scripture: John 21:17 — Jesus restores Peter: “Feed my sheep.” Discussion: Why is it powerful that Peter, who doubted and failed, was chosen to lead? How can our doubts become part of our testimony? Takeaway Truths Doubt doesn’t disqualify you. Jesus meets you where you are. Doubt can be a doorway to deeper faith.
